The EMD SD40 is an American 6-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between January 1966 and August 1972. 1,268 locomotives were built between 1966 and 1972. In 1972, an improved version with new electronics was developed and marketed as a new locomotive, the SD40-2.

2014年12月13日 · Built as Chicago, St. Paul, Minneapolis & Omaha 58, 59, re-engined by EMD from original 660 horsepower to 900 horsepower in 1959, using new EMD 8-567 engines and new EMD design long hoods; acquired by C&NW in January 1957. EMD rebuild order number 8545. Renumbered from C&NW 58, 59 in October 1968.

2006年7月3日 · In 1966 CGW ordered 9 EMD SD40s, nos 401-409. These were the largest motive power the Great Western would ever have. They were the only 6 motor (axle) units on CGW as well. They were the last power the road purchased. They did test SD45s, GP35s, and GP40s, but ended up ordering the SD40.

A. #4084C was heavily damaged (including a cracked/bent frame) in Rhinelander, WI wreck on 4 July 1951. There is no available record indicating the F7A was rebuilt by the railroad or EMD. Yet records show a # 4084C was renumbered 21 years later as #415. B. The following CGW locomotives were sold or scrapped prior to the merger with C&NW: C.

2004年8月13日 · Chicago Great Western SD40 401 from a Kato Model. This model was built from a Kato SD 40 that I stripped, redetailed and repainted. The unit was detailed with such items as MU hoses,and nose light casting. Also, I replaced the Kato cut bars and grab irons with wire ones from Detail Associates.
