The Elevator Channel on YouTube were given a special privilege a few weeks ago when they were allowed a final look at the Chesterfield, Missouri Mall before it's final day of existence on August 31, 2024.

2024年4月16日 · It needed a new elevator cab but that's about it. As long as the roof is still in good condition (and satellite picture show it is), the building probably won't need a huge amount of remediation. Not sure why they didn't re-open back then, the mall was alive but struggling.

2024年9月6日 · Chesterfield Mall officially closed forever on August 31, and I was told by management that demolition will begin earlier than planned. The mall originally opened on September 1, 1976, so it made it 48 years. Back when it was built, the area was largely fields, as can be seen above and in an aerial photo I published several years ago.

The mall's original two anchor stores were Sears and Stix, Baer, and Fuller. Two years later in 1978, the four-screen Chesterfield Mall 4 Cinema opened in a separate building adjacent to the mall, near Stix.

I remember finding the breaker box for the one in my mall and feeling so powerful switching it off. This event, separate from the second paragraph, had the breaker box on the underside of the escalator on the first floor, next to the elevator. Small, single panel like I have in my own home, seemed to only power the escalator.
