Republic of China released the final rule of the Stage 6 Limits and Measurement Methods for Emissions from Light-Duty Vehicles1 (GB18352.6—2016; hereafter referred to as the China 6 standard or China 6). This standard applies to light-duty vehicles (M1, M2, and N1 categories up to 3,500 kg of maximum mass per the European regulatory

Beginning July 1, 2023, the second phase of the National Stage 6 standard was implemented, per the announcement made by China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE). Non-compliant vehicles are no longer allowed to be produced, imported, or sold in China.

2020年9月1日 · The latest upgrade, known collectively known as China 6, aims to remove pollutants including particulate matter (PM) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx) from the air. This latest legislation is composed of China VI, the emissions standard for heavy-duty vehicles, and China 6, the emissions standard for passenger cars and light-duty commercial vehicles.

China 6 standards are fuel neutral and the same limits apply for gasoline and diesel vehicles. a Prior to July 1, 2020, a PN limit of 6×10 12 applied to gasoline fueled vehicles. Some important details of the China 6 standard include: China 6b targets reductions of 50% for hydrocarbons, 40% for NOx and 33% for PM over Euro 6 levels.

Things will get tougher still when China 6a is replaced by 6b in July 2023, with revised limits significantly lower than European equivalents. The real long-term challenge comes from the requirements for the durability of emissions control devices:

The China VI standard will be implemented in two phases.

In December 2016, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) issued the final version of the China 6 standard for both gasoline and diesel vehicles. The China 6 standard, with implementation dates of 1 July 2020 for China 6a and 1 July 2023 for China 6b, is one of the most stringent emission standards around the world.
