Point Judith Salt Pond -- and in particular the East Pond tidal flats -- supports a commercial and very large recreational shellfishery for clams, quahogs, as well as oysters and scallops in season. The north-south pond extends from the urban center of Wakefield at the head of the pond to the port of Galilee at the mouth of the pond.

You can also find shellfish here, such as clams, quahogs, blue crabs, eel, and bay scallops. You’ll find public access at Charlestown Breachway. You can get out on the water using one of the two marinas located at the pond. If you enjoy fishing for stripers with a fly rod, head over in late April and early May right after the Cinder Worm hatch.

Holders of a non-resident shellfishing license may take quahogs, soft-shelled clams, mussels, surf clams, oysters (in season). Anglers will real in an assortment of fish including whitefish, smelt, winter flounder and northern pike. You can also find shellfish such as clams, quahogs, blue crabs, eel, and bay scallops in the area. As a result of heavy development on the eastern shore, the water quality of Ninigret Pond was found to be degrading.

Ninigret Pond is located in Charlestown. It is the largest salt pond and is connected to Green Hill Pond by a tidal channel on the east side. Ninigret Pond is a coastal lagoon with a breachway that connects it to the ocean. The Charlestown breachway is prone to shoaling which contributes to navigation issues.
