(a) The rules in this part establish minimum qualifications for persons who drive commercial motor vehicles as, for, or on behalf of motor carriers. The rules in this part also establish minimum duties of motor carriers with respect to the qualifications of their drivers.

(a) Except as provided in subpart G, a person shall not drive a commercial motor vehicle unless he/she has first successfully completed a road test and has been issued a certificate of driver's road test in accordance with this section. (b) The road test shall be given by the motor carrier or a person designated by it.

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (49 CFR 391.21) require that all applicants wishing to drive a commercial vehicle list all employment for the last three (3) years.

So while I recommend the class, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend along with 391 and 313. You can also look into taking ECE 448/CS 440 (AI), which shouldn''t be too bad.
