The Class 422 is a series of four-car electric multiple units that are a derivative of the DBAG Class 423. The two inner cars in the set are designated as Class 432 vehicles.

The 422 class are a class of diesel locomotives built by Clyde Engineering, Granville for the Department of Railways New South Wales in 1969/70. The 422 class were the first Australian locomotives built with non-streamlined dual cab bodies.

Class 421/5, no. 1313, at London Waterloo on 19 July 2003. This is one of 22 "Greyhound" units that were operated by South West Trains. The British Rail Class 421 (4CIG) electric multiple units were built at BR's Holgate Road carriage works between 1964 and 1972.

The most modern variant is the class 422, which has been built for the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn since 2007. The most important change is the adaptation of the vehicle fronts to the latest crash standards, which has increased the overall length by around two meters with additional crumple zones and anti-climbing devices.
