The British Rail Class 458 Juniper (4-JOP later 5-JUP) is a class of electric multiple-unit passenger trains of the Alstom Coradia Juniper family, built at Washwood Heath between 1998 and 2002 for South West Trains. [10]

Class 458/0 Juniper before conversion into 458/5. The Class 458 Juniper (also known as 5JUP) is operated by South Western Railway on services from London Waterloo to Reading, Weybridge, Windsor & Eton Riverside, and circular metro routes from Waterloo via Richmond and Hounslow.

The Class 458/4 and Class458/5 Coradia Juniper trains are four and five-carriage trains developed from our previous four-carriage Class 458 trains. The five-car 458/5 fleet features additional carriages donated from the Class 460 fleet operated by Gatwick Express.

28 June 2024 – South Western Railway (SWR) has introduced the first of its Alstom refurbished Class 458 on its UK network. Units 458415, 458420 and 458422 – all in their updated SWR livery – will initially be used to operate eight-car services between London Waterloo and Weybridge via Brentford, and London Waterloo and Twickenham.

The class 458 was the first electric train to attempt and achieve the Safety Case; at times a difficult progress. Peter gave us an interesting and well- illustrated talk, and then answered questions. Later a visit to Wimbledon will be arranged to view the class 458.

2021年4月11日 · Porterbrook’s contract with Alstom will see the trains uprated to a top speed of 100mph, a complete upgrade of the passenger saloon to meet the needs of long-distance customers, and reconfiguration of the trains to enable the faster acceleration required to meet established journey times on key routes.
