This digital clock is based on ESP8266 WIFI micro-controller unit. The flavor used for project design and creation is WEMOS D1 mini which is equipped with a ESP-12F (ESP8266), a 5v to 3.3v regulator, a CH340G USB to UART chip and of course a micro usb connector.

* "Wifi D1 Mini" or "Wemos D1 Mini" MicroSD card logger and real time clock. * NOTE: Despite the name, this card does not support Wifi. It appears there's a card of the * same name that also has an ESP-8266EX, and that one supports Wifi.

The main controller in this project is the ESP8266 which is contained in the Wemos D1 Mini Module. With integrated WiFi in it, it allows many things to be done. One of them is making a clock using NTP (Network Time Protocol). NTP can be used to sync all network devices to UTC Time in a few milliseconds.

This project uses an WEMOS D1 Mini ESP8266 module and an Arduino sketch to connect to a NTP (Network Time Protocol) server to automatically retrieve and display the local time on a inexpensive analog quartz clock. The ESP8266 reconnects to the NTP server every 15 minutes which keeps the clock accurate.

Qlockwork is an ESP8266 (NodeMCU or WeMos D1 mini) firmware (under GPL license) for a so called "word-clock". The clock adjusts the time and date once every hour via NTP with a time server on the Internet. If an RTC is installed, the time of the ESP is also set from the RTC via the SyncProvider. At startup the clock performs a short self test.
