2009年2月8日 · Collar ties go in the upper third of the roof and prevent uplift. Rafter ties go low in the roof and tie the bottoms of opposing rafters together to keep the tops of the walls from spreading and the ridge from sagging.

2022年7月6日 · Let's say you have a gable roof with collar tie & ceiling joists. If you install a new ridge beam just below the ridge board and you also keep the existing collar ties, am I right to assume you can remove the ceiling joists and use the existing rafters?

2005年11月16日 · The collar ties are redundant because equilibrium is acheived by the vertical reactions at the ridge and the wall. If you do add collar ties to a system that has a structural ridge beam, I do agree that the collars will be loaded by the deflection of the rafter.

2021年10月20日 · A collar tie and a rafter tie are two very different things and are very plainly defined in the code. Collar tie goes in the upper 1/3 and locks in the rafters at the ridge for unbalanced loading, rafter tie goes in the bottom 1/3 and resists spread. I do agree that the most effective place for a rafter tie is at rafter bearing.
