2006年8月8日 · With the evolution of TCAS, FOGs, etc. the old surveyed/certified compass rose couldn't cut it any more which was another reason for their demise. The use of a GPS is a poor mans way of getting a magnetic compass set up quickly before officially swinging it.

If you go to their website, and search "Palmyra" (88C) which is a very nice airport in Wisconsin, it will pull up their October 2010 newsletter, I think, which has several compass rose painting events. Some seem huge, others are more modest, but all seem like fun.

2005年6月9日 · I helped paint the 99's Compass Rose at KFTG, Front Range, Watkins, CO when I was based there. The rumor that the 99's is named after the average age of its members is certainly exagerated.....by a year or two.

2020年4月18日 · Either the rose (calibration pad) is certified or its not and falls to the mechanic to contact the airport to see if it is. A mechanic cannot certify a compass rose. But as an FYI, the information for certifying a compass rose is in the Airport Ops FARs. Unfortunately, the numbers of certified compass roses are declining as fast as rural airports.

2019年8月18日 · The compass rose at College Park, MD was created when the Wright Brothers started their flying school for the Army. About a decade ago, the Museum on the field did an archeological project, and restored that original rose. It is more than 10 degrees from the co located modern rose. And the modern rose is about 1 degree behind already.

2023年10月15日 · Part of my annual condition inspection on my experimental aircraft is to swing the compass on the compass rose and adjust it. The imperfections are noted on the compass correction card. Part of my takeoff procedure is to see the compass agrees with the runway heading as published in the chart supplement.
