Bacterial skin infections. Corynebacteria - DermNet
Corynebacteria are small gram-positive cocci generally considered to be commensal organisms. However, under certain circumstances, they can cause skin problems. Pitted keratolysis causes smelly feet. It is associated with hyperhidrosis and occlusive footwear. It is caused by corynebacteria, and possibly Dermatophilus congolensis.
The human skin microbiome | Nature Reviews Microbiology
2018年1月15日 · We discuss recent insights into skin microbial communities, including their composition in health and disease, the dynamics between species and interactions with the immune system, with a focus...
Cutaneous diphtheria - DermNet
2020年2月24日 · Cutaneous diphtheria is caused by infection with Corynebacterium diphtheriae and the zoonotic Corynebacterium ulcerans, which is the predominant cause in the UK and Europe. C. diphtheriae is a gram positive, non-encapsulated bacillus. Both toxigenic and non-toxigenic strains have been implicated in cutaneous infection.
Contextual control of skin immunity and inflammation by Corynebacterium
Our data demonstrate that Corynebacterium activates the skin immune system and that this property depends on the expression of mycolic acid, a highly conserved surface molecule that distinguishes Corynebacteria from other gram-positive skin microbes. Together, our results also reveal that host metabolic status can have a profound impact on the ...
Corynebacterium tuberculostearicum, a human skin colonizer, …
Corynebacterium tuberculostearicum (C. t.) is a ubiquitous bacterium that colonizes human skin. In contrast to other members of the genus Corynebacterium, such as toxigenic Corynebacterium diphtheriae or the opportunistic pathogen Corynebacterium jeikeium, several studies suggest that C. t. may play a role in skin health and disease. However ...
Species- and strain-level diversity of Corynebacteria isolated from ...
2023年11月28日 · Sequencing of the human skin microbiome revealed that Corynebacterium is an ubiquitous and abundant bacterial genus on human skin. Shotgun sequencing further highlighted the microbial “dark matter” of the skin microbiome, consisting of microorganisms, including corynebacterial species that were not cultivated and genome-sequenced so far.
Corynebacterium-associated skin infections - PubMed
Background: Corynebacterium spp. are diphtheroid bacteria responsible for pitted keratolysis, a common plantar infection confined to the thick stratum corneum. Aim: To study a series of demographic features of patients suffering from pitted keratolysis, and to present a review of the Corynebacterium-associated infections, including pitted ...
Coryneform bacteria in infectious diseases: clinical and laboratory ...
Many of these organisms are skin flora that belong to a large number of taxonomic groups, only 40% of which are in the genus Corynebacterium. This review provides an update on clinical presentations, microbiological features, and pathogenic mechanisms of infections with nondiphtheria Corynebacterium species and other pleomorphic gram-positive rods.
Contextual control of skin immunity and inflammation by
2018年3月5日 · Here we demonstrate that Corynebacteria, dominant members of the skin microbiota, promote a dramatic increase in the number and activation of a defined subset of γδ T cells. This effect is long-lasting, occurs independently of other microbes, and is, in part, mediated by interleukin (IL)-23.
Clinical and epidemiological features of coryneform skin …
Skin infections caused by coryneform bacteria are common dermatological conditions. However, to the best of our knowledge, no studies are available on the clinical characteristics and epidemiological features of this group of disorders as one entity from India and abroad.
