The designation Crémant de Luxembourg dates from 4 January 1991 when the Marque Nationale: Appellation contrôlée Crémant de Luxembourg was introduced. The two indigenous varieties of Jacquère and Altesse, along with Chardonnay, constitute Crémant de Savoie. This sub-alpine region also has a long history of making fizz, but has only been allowed to label its sparkling wines Crémant since 2014.

Crémant is sparkling wine made from the best grapes of the Luxembourg vineyards. It differs from traditional sparkling wines by specific criteria, including good sound character and perfect ripeness of the grapes, which are transported without being crushed.
