Cromemco, Inc. was a Mountain View, California microcomputer company known for its high-end Z80 -based S-100 bus computers and peripherals in the early days of the personal computer revolution. The company began as a partnership in 1974 between Harry Garland and Roger Melen, two Stanford Ph.D. students.

The Cromemco Dazzler was a graphics card for S-100 bus computers introduced in a Popular Electronics cover story in 1976. [1] . It was the first color graphics card available for microcomputers. [2] .

The Cromemco Z-2D computer was a Z80–based microcomputer system which differed from a Z-2 by having one or two Wangco 5¼" disk drives, a disk power supply and a 4FDC disk controller in a Z-2 chassis.

CROMEMCO was founded in 1974 by two Stanford Students, Roger Melen and Harry Garland, who lived and worked in the CROthers MEMorial Hall dormitory on the Stanford campus. Eventually CROMEMCO needed space to receive visitors, and moved out of the dorm to Mountain View, and incorporated in 1976.

2018年8月11日 · The Cromemco Z-2 computer was their own first a Z80 based microcomputer system and was made for many years in forms of increasing complexity. It has a huge power supply, a rock solid motherboard and card cage. The Z-2 series was capable of supporting up to 21 S-100 boards and could be configured with any of the boards supplied by Cromemco.

Cromemco systems were the first commercially marketed microcomputers certified by the U.S. Navy for use aboard ships and Ohio class submarines for data logging during tests. The United States Air Force became a major customer for their Theater Air Control System (TACS) and the Mission Support System (MSS) for F-16, F-15 and other aircraft.

Cromemco (named for CROthers MEMorial Hall - the Stanford residence where the founders lived), came into existance in the mid 1970s, and grew to become a major player in the S-100 business systems market.
