The CW44AH aka “heavies” is CSX’s unique model of the CW44AC weighing some 20,000 lb more than all the other 4400s. They also have a software upgrade that helps increase tractive effort. **The "H" in CSXT's class CW44AH and ES44AH locomotives stands for "high", which is in reference to a combination of subsystems that produce "high" levels of tractive effort at low speeds. If it only stood for "heavy", CSXT would have classified its 432,000-pound model ES44DC locomotives as ES44DH instead of ES44DC or, currently, ES40DC.

About a year ago TRAINS had an article on CSXT coal train operations that differentiated between the CW44ACs and the CW44AHs. After that the "H" started to be patched on the units, #495--#599 + #5101--#5122, according to The Bull Sheet. I have read that the new CSXT ES44ACs, that's how they come stenciled from GE, are actually ES44AHs.

CSX 527 pulls an loaded coal train by the 5109 and 8035 in Hamlet. Heading eastbound in Lander. Taken on the north side of the tracks. An unknown coal train with Y162 at Baltimore. YI62 blows at the crossing before Baileys. Y162 sits next to Y327. If Q406 hadn't broken that connection, Y162 would be on the move by now.
