Photo 2 shows the bulkhead behind the pilot with the seat mounting frame and what appears to be an equipment rack.

Val is the Hasegawa 1/48 D3A1 with the CMK resin insert cockpit which is a real joy. I mixed my own version of the Aichi interior green : bamboo colour. The canopy is half Squadron signal and half the kit. Painted with Aeromaster acrylics and decals and finished with Johnson's clear varnish and different shades of oil wash.

Production began in 1939, with Aichi producing 476 D3A1 (including an increased number of prototypes) and 816 Type D3A2s. In addition, 220 late production D3A2 were produced at Showa Aircraft Co. Of these, 135 were still in production at the end of the war. Some of the D3A2 were converted into training planes with a control unit in the rear seat.

The cockpit makes up as a complete assembly which is them mounted to the fuselage before joining the halves. There are some holes that need to be opened up in the lower wing to attach included bombs and this needs to be done in advance of assembling the wings.
