Started in 1994 as an alternative to the overburdened networks of the time, DALnet has grown into a vibrant community and is widely regarded as the most "friendly" of the major IRC networks.

DALnet is comprised of a number of servers hosted by our generous sponsors, and run by our team of volunteer staff members. Primarily, users connect either to an IX server or a Public server.

DALnet is different from other IRC networks in a variety of ways. The most important difference is DALnet's custom IRC Services: NickServ, ChanServ, and MemoServ. DALnet's services are coded, maintained, and upgraded by our own staff.

Channel registrations on DALnet are handled by ChanServ, one of DALnet’s services. You should only ever provide your channel password to ChanServ.
