The German express locomotive, number 18 201 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn in East Germany, appeared in 1960–61 at Meiningen Steam Locomotive Works as a conversion of the Henschel-Wegmann train locomotive 61 002, the tender from 44 468 and parts of H 45 024 and Class 41. It is the fastest operational steam locomotive in the world.

Als Baureihe V 100 (ab 1970: 110) bezeichnete die Deutsche Reichsbahn vierachsige Strecken diesellokomotiven für den mittleren Dienst. Das Mitte der 1950er Jahre von der Deutschen Reichsbahn (DR) aufgestellte Diesellokprogramm zur Ablösung der Dampflokomotiven enthielt die Baureihen V 15, V 60, V 180 und V 240.

In 1970, DR adopted a computerised numbering system, and locomotives numbered V100 xxx became 110 xxx; locomotives from 110 202 carried the new numbers from introduction. The last V100 of the run – 110 896 – was completed in March 1978.

Die Dampflok BR 18 201 wurde 1961 im Reichsbahnausbesserungswerk Meiningen als letzte in Deutschland hergestellte Dampfloktype gebaut. Um Reisezugwagen für den Export mit 160 km/h Höchstgeschwindigkeit erproben zu können, benötigte die Reichsbahn eine geeignete Lok.
