The Class 420 (German: Baureihe 420) is a commuter electric multiple unit train type in service on German S-Bahn networks since 1972. Their use in Munich during the 1972 Summer Olympics earned them the colloquial name Olympiatriebwagen (Olympic multiple unit).

The DB BR 420 is a German electric multiple unit historically used for S-Bahn services. It is an upcoming locomotive add-on for the Frankfurt S-Bahn in Train Sim World 5. The BR 420 was introduced in 1970 as the rolling stock for the newly opened Munich S-Bahn.

Die Baureihe 420 (Mittelwagen Baureihe 421) wurde für den S-Bahnverkehr im Raum München, Stuttgart und Frankfurt/Main entwickelt. Ab 2000 begann die Ausmusterung und der Ersatz durch die Baureihe 423. Ursprünglich war vorgesehen jedes der einzelnen S-Bahn-Netze farblich abzugrenzen, so für München blau, für Frankfurt rot und für Düsseldorf orange.

Als Weiterentwicklung des ET 427 von 1964 entstand die Baureihe 420/421. Die erste große Serie wurde 1970 bestellt und erlebte ihre Bewährungsprobe im Einsatz während der Olympischen Spiele von München im Jahre 1972. Es folgten weitere Fahrzeuge für die S- Bahnnetze Rhein/Ruhr, Stuttgart und Frankfurt. Erst 1997 endete die Beschaffung.
