Dynamic Expanders....are they worth it? - Steve Hoffman Music …
2014年1月7日 · The 2bx let you add expansion (or compression) in two frequency bands (higher and lower frequencies) , the 3bx in three (high, low and middle) and no extra prizes for guessing how the 1bx worked. The individual channels in each were identical in circuitry, only difference was how many paths the signal was split into before expansion and ...
DBX Record question - Steve Hoffman Music Forums
2025年1月3日 · When playing directly, the output of the cartridge and dbx discs go through the phono preamp for RIAA EQ, then go to the dbx cassette decoder, or out through the stand-alone dbx decoder. So the digitized, or recorded dbx disc output, at line level, goes to the same decoding as would playing the disc directly.
Opinions on Dynamic Range Extenders - Steve Hoffman Music …
2003年6月2日 · I have a couple of DBX 3BX Model III units and they utilize three-band operation. I will add that they will produce audible artifacts if a heavy hand is applied to the controls. The impact restoration is the tool of the devil and I suggest avoiding the temptation to use it at all costs. Expansion can be pleasing when used in moderation.
Who are the main users of dBx equipments today?
2001年1月30日 · Back in the 80's, dBx used to give Dolby a run for the money. Unfortunately, Dolby was like Microsoft, which really knew how to market its product while dBx was more like Apple. I believe dBx is now a subsidiary of Harman International, just like JBL, AKG and Levinson, etc. But who are the main users of dBx equipments today?
Audio nostalgia - Steve Hoffman Music Forums
2018年2月8日 · I auditioned the dbx 1BX and 3Bx, but greatly preferred the Pioneer RG-1, which I still have, and which I just recently had fully refurbished. Elcaset came and went too fast for me to buy into it. (Not being an early adopter sometimes pays off!) Is there anything, nostalgia-wise, in the audio gear world that I pine for? Hmmm...
Help me choose Yamaha A-S801 or Cambridge CXA81
2021年9月1日 · I am thinking of upgrading my Pioneer SX-S30 receiver with either Yamaha A-S801 or Cambridge CXA81. I listen mostly to vinyl and stream via Apple...
Too Much Dynamic Range? | Steve Hoffman Music Forums
2003年8月10日 · I took to using an old dbx 118 dynamic range expander/compressor at night...worked wonders. I have a newer dbx 1BX-DS on hand that I need to repair, which is a newer expander/compressor. My Pioneer DV-45A has a feature that will decrease the dynamic range, but I think it only works on Dolby surround audio, not music.
Silly question - what causes " hiss - Steve Hoffman Music Forums
2004年8月30日 · I won a newer version of this on eBay, a model from the mid to late 80s, a dbx 1BX-DS, which has newer, faster circuitry. Only $25, but it needs a couple of new potentiometers. -=Rudy=- , Sep 1, 2004
Loudness & tone controls-why? | Steve Hoffman Music Forums
2004年6月23日 · For "loudness" compensation, I actually have used a small Radio Shack single-band bass enhancer, which is just a single-band EQ that works like a parametric in a way (you pick a "shelf" frequency, and the amount of boost)...and, a dbx 118 compressor/expander. (I bought a dbx 1BX-DS to replace it, but it needs some minor repair. One of my eBay ...
Dynamic Expanders....are they worth it? | Page 2 - Steve Hoffman …
2015年10月3日 · One of which included running the tube preamp from the Hammond B3 organ into CHANNEL1 of 1bx > into CH-1 of Electrovoice 31 band EQ > into CH 2 of 1bx > into CH-2 of Electrovoice 31 band EQ. This arrangement allowed me to get the most amazing Hammond B3 organ sounds through it's Leslie 122 rotary speaker cabinet, which was then miked and recorded.
