During playback, the audio dynamics are expanded back to the normal levels. Noise and other artifacts of the recording media are reduced, usually below the threshold of hearing.

Does anyone know of a place that specializes in repairing / servicing these vintage sound processor devices.

2021年3月24日 · Tapes that sound great with dbx monitoring off the tape during recording often don't fare as well in 20 years time. It is a challenge to avoid saturation at slower speeds due to high frequency boost used in the dbx encoding process but you still have to avoid dropping into the noise floor where pumping and breathing becomes more obvious.

2006年6月17日 · Yes, dbx did make a couple companding noise reduction circuits for tape decks, etc. In addition, they also made a bunch of single-ended processors like the ones being discussed here for the purpose of expanding the dynamic range of music. dbx has been making these circuits for decades with analog circuits and more recently with digital circuits.

2013年6月27日 · The DBX Soundfield 1, 1A, 10, 100 and 1000's were made by DBX - some of the other models were not. The ones that were not made by DBX but were "branded as DBX" were sold by DAK. But with speakers it is a matter of personal taste, whether a person likes their sound or not. I personally like the sound of my DBX Soundfield 1000's.
