Shark is a name used by several characters in the DC Universe. Gunther Hardwicke was an inventor who wanted to do something else, so he became a criminal. With his friends Fox and Vulture, he committed crimes as the Terrible Trio, and frequently opposed Batman.

In a Coast City restaurant, the Shark devoured dozens of bloody steaks to feed his hunger. He started a fight with a local boxing champ, only to have the champ pass out from fear. Ordinary men would be too easy for the advanced predator, so his mind sought out Hal Jordan, also known as Green Lantern.

The Terrible Trio is a group of supervillains appearing in comic books published by DC Comics, first appearing in Detective Comics #253 (March 1958). King Shark in the DC Extended Universe is the second live-action incarnation of the character, following an incarnation portrayed by Dan Payne and voiced by David Hayter.
