The general structure of the DC-4E closely followed the proven design of its predecessors. The three-spar wing was designed in three sections like the wing of the DC-3. The center section incorporated the four engine nacelles, main landing gear and split-type flaps. The outer panels incorporated the slotted flaps and ailerons with trim tabs.

On the nose gear the hydraulic steering cylinders face rearward on the DC-4, and the main landing gear is more vertical with less rearward rake. The shape of the main gear doors is also slightly different, but you'll have to look at photos.
