USS MEREDITH was one of the GEARING - class destroyers and the fourth ship in the Navy to bear the name. Decommissioned on June 29, 1979, MEREDITH was transferred to Turkey the same day and recommissioned as SAVASTEPE. There she remained in service until 1994 and was subsequently scrapped.
