DHS provides housing assistance and basic needs support, ensuring access to shelter for those experiencing homelessness. It also helps people find employment opportunities to regain financial stability. In addition, DHS offers mental health services, supporting individuals struggling with addiction through specialized programs.

Through combined federal (Community Services Block Grant), utility (CPS Energy and SAWS), and general fund dollars, the Department of Human Services’ Family Assistance Division provides help to families in San Antonio and Bexar County that are seeking to meet basic needs.
