DKW (Dampfkraftwagen, English: "steam-power car" – the same initials later also used for Des Knaben Wunsch, English: "the knave's/boy's wish"; Das Kleine Wunder, English: "the little wonder" and Deutsche Kinderwagen, English: "German strollers") was a German car- and motorcycle-marque.

DKW production motorcycles began with the 1922, 142cc model and subsequent editions became instantly popular. By the late 1920s, DKW was the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer. In September 1924, DKW bought Slaby-Beringer, who had developed a small one-person car, powered by an electric motor.

2011年4月3日 · In 1921 Rasmussen began producing a series of motor powered bicycles and by now the DKW initials had established themselves as the company name, which was finally trademarked in 1922. The first notable DKW motorcycle was the 1925 E206, powered by a two stroke single cylinder 206cc., 4hp. engine which was incorporated into the frame structure.

Jorge Rasmussen founded Motorenwerke Rasmussen in Zschopau, Germany in 1906, and entered the motorcycle industry with a 30cc bicycle motor in 1921 and shortly thereafter introduced 122cc Golem and 142cc Lomos scooters. The name DKW was trademarked in 1922 and the firm went on to become one of the largest manufacturers of motorcycles in the world.

DKW’s racing bikes had to be converted more or less overnight to natural aspiration. The first to appear was a racing version of the DKW RT 125, now shorn of its charge pump, followed by a 250 cc class bike with a twin-cylinder engine.
