In the Devil May Cry series, the map is used to navigate locations within each game. There are two types of maps: the mini-map, which shows the current room that the player is in, and the expanded map, which shows all of the floors and rooms currently accessible by the player.

DMC1 is so straight forward that use of the map is not required, and frankly the controls for the map are harder to wrap your head around then controlling anything else in DMC1. DMC2,DMC3, and DMC4 also have maps, but it's easy to forget that they do. DMC3 map is useful exactly once, in the mission with the puzzle to rotate the tower.

You have to get M3 and M5 SB to get early vortex. If you do not get early vortex, you can grab it on M12. If you have good ranks you can make all these buys without any extra item pickups, you have roughly 450 extra Orbs on M8 and 4K extra Orbs By M12.
