W4JBM's Realistic DX-160 Page. In 1967, Radio Shack introduced the DX-150 general coverage (535 kHz to 30 MHz) receiver. Over the next few years, this line underwent several improvements (the DX-150A and DX-150B). In 1975 the DX-160 was introduced with the most noticeable change being the addition of a LW band (150-400 kHz).

The DX-160 is sensitive, selective and durable; meaning it will perform for decades. If you get one, be sure to do a realignment of the circuits since component values have aged and changed over the decades, and clean the pots and switches.

Big, beautiful, color-coded slide rule dial. Clearly marked and easy to use controls. Warm incandescent dial & meter lighting. Real analog signal strength meter. Heavy, solid feel. Yes, a welcome return to yesteryear. Performance? Not too shabby really. If properly aligned, these radios are sensitive and very quiet.

Radio Shack DX-160 General Coverage Short Wave Receiver
The DX-160 is a good performing solid state Long Wave, Broadcast Band, and up to 30 MHz short wave receiver. It will operate from AC or 12 VDC power. Be sure to get the mating connector if you plan to use it that way. It has a ceramic filter in the IF, a BFO for SSB and CW reception with AVC and S meter function on all modes.
