Presumably the fact that a dagger can be thrust by hand or thrown some distance with lethal effect makes it a suitable metaphor for a killing three-point shot.

The design harks back to some of the stone blade shapes from the stone age. I had been aware of this design but had pretty much discounted it for practical purposes.
