The Series 100 was the original 37-39 passenger version of the Dash 8 that entered service in 1984. The original engine was the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW120 and later units used the PW121. Rated engine power is 1,800 shp (1,340 kW).

The Bombardier Q100 or De Havilland Canada Dash 8 series 100 is one of the variants of the Dash-8 that was introduced by the Canadian aircraft manufacturer, de Havilland Canada in 1984 before the company was acquired by Boeing in 1988, then later bought by Bombardier in 1992.

The Dash 8-100 was the first variant, and its most recent maximum take-off weight (MTOW) is 36,300lbs (see table, page 7). The earlier Dash 8-102 is powered by the PW120A rated at 2,000shp, has a cruise speed of 265 knots, and a maximum range of 1,159nm.

Similar in configuration to the Dash-7, but smaller in size, seating a crew of two and 36 passengers (series 100), the Dash-8 was aimed at the commuter airline market, with executive and mixed passenger/cargo models being available.
