He plans out severals plans but when he is close in getting his freedom. his father is always one step ahead of him. And puts him back. This continues for long time until Dazai finally escapes from him.

It's clear, that Dazai doesn't really want to die yet, because he's trying to find a reason to live for. He joined the mafia for this very reason. In the start of fifteen Dazai seems to be fascinated by that dying soldier, so maybe this was a first time he could observe someone dying this closely, or maybe he only did it to mess with Chuuya.

Dazai is such an important character in bsd, despite not being main character. He's literaly everywhere in all novels, and the story wouldn't probably even work without him at this point. Sometimes, it even seems like he actually doesn't only predict what happens, but more like, he can actually control what is going to happen.

2021年9月26日 · Forgot the exact phrasing, but it was something along the lines of "Evil expects evil" from Dazai during the meetup between Fukuzawa and Mori towards the end of the Guild arc. The way that Dazai said it was so cold and twisted and to see Mori's reaction to him saying it was great. The knife he sharpened is finally stabbing back.

Dazai in canon: started a cycle of abuse by harming Akutagawa in his training and is the reason why the Sheep betrayed Chuuya.
