
GE U30C - Wikipedia
The GE U30C is a six-axle locomotive built by General Electric from 1966 to 1976. With 600 units sold, the U30C proved to be a viable alternative for customers who were unable to purchase SD40s from Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) due to production backlog.

Nice photo of Detroit Edison GE U30C sitting in Erie, PA, before its next run. Built by GE, it was delivered in March of 1972 and equipped with mid-train operations. It served the DE its entire life and was scrapped in 2011.

Conrail inherited 10 U30C's from the Penn Central and the Reading Company. The 3,000hp U30C's were assigned CR series 6535-6539 and 6579-6583.

Most, if not all, of the U30Cs were retrofitted with Gyralites by the D&H. The electrical prints for the U30Cs were modified with the Gyralite in 1971, and the modifications were carried out on through late 1974 and early 1975. Since the U30Cs were ready for major overhauls during this period, they received the lights. All went to NdeM in 1978.
