Introduced in 1980, this machine was built into a VT100 case. It had a 10 MHz clock and 32 Kwords of memory. It was also known as the VT278. As part of a three-pronged strategy against IBM, the company released this model in 1982 at the same time as the PDP-11 -based PRO-350 and the Intel 8088 -based Rainbow 100.

The DEC VT278, also known as the DECmate, is a combination of a PDP-8/E and a DEC VT100. The PDP-8/E is implemented via the Harris HD2160 CMOS microprocessor implementation of the PDP-8/E instruction set with some extensions. The DECmate comes standard with a dual RX02 floppy drive interface for local storage.

WPS-8 is a Word Processing System sold by Digital Equipment Corporation for use with their PDP-8 processors (including the VT78, VT278 DECmate, and PC238 DECmate II and PC24P DECmate III microcomputer systems).

2018年12月8日 · The VT278 maybe $150. If the VT278 has the extremely rare RL278 option for connecting an RL01 or RL02 drive, that option alone is worth more than the VT278. The DP278 option is very nice since it adds serial interfaces for connecting a printer or using this unit as a terminal, add $100 for that.

2025年2月3日 · The DEC Decmate is an interesting thing in its own right and they are collectable. Whether on not it's financially viable to repair, I couldn't say. I just like them for what they are and that sort of thing is just part of the hobby for me.
