when u r using ip default-network or ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 command means u r injecting a default route in the network. So to do so u have inject a route whose subnet mask is default in all the networks. So ip default-network uses classful addressing scheme. the subnet mask of the default route must be same in all the networks.....

So regardless of what AD's are in contention, default route/last resort will only be picked up if there is no route. If there is a route, even if the AD is set to 254 it'll take precedence over the default route/last resort (Set with AD as 1) because it will have a longer prefix.

For multihoming i think default route is not the best solution because you could have to share traffic between 2 or more links to ISP using BGP attribute (ie: prepending, metric,....). You could have 2 ISP peer each one connected to 2 separate router.
