These laws impact the ways that asbestos projects are fi led, approved and inspected, and involve new levels of cooperation among the agencies that oversee asbestos and construction safety: the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), the Department of Buildings (DOB) and the Fire Department (FDNY).

If ARTS determines that the project triggers an Asbestos Work Permit, the job must go through ATRU review. Jobs that will disturb less than 1,000 square or linear feet of ACM on any given floor may be filed with DEP using either the current ACP7 or the new online ARTS application, though these jobs will not be subject to review and permitting.

These regulations include the requirement that the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) be formally notified at least seven days before abatement activities take place.
