The Death and Resurrection rituals are all dramatic and full of intrigue, with Papa Djab using his four-fingered staff to kill and his long arrow-point tail to revive. The chants for the ritual follow a particular sequence. The only character who does not die as he is far removed from Papa Djab is Kabwit (the Black Djab).

Today marks the first of two showings of ‘Mi Djab La’, a theatrical production by Youth SPAC at the National Cultural Centre, part of Nobel Laureate Week celebrations. Written and directed by Kentillia Louis, the play brings traditional masquerade characters to life—offering a chance to see yourself reflected in their stories.
