2020年11月16日 · Chrysler engineers created a 383 engine out of the RB 413 block, with a narrower bore - so there was a large-bore, short-stroke Dodge 383 and a small-bore, long-stroke Chrysler "Golden Lion" 383. The 383 RB was only available in 1959 and 1960 on the US-built Chrysler Windsor and Saratoga (thanks, Ian Smale and Bill Watson).

However, the new RB assembly line was under-used; so an RB 383 was created, in two and four barrel versions, for two years.

The 1972 400 was a cleaner 'smog' engine and could be fitted with an EGR valve and/or air pump if needed. The 383 was pre-smog, but had strong torque output. My neighbor had a 1965 Newport with a 383 2-bbl that could really move out for a big car.

2020年11月16日 · So, today, if you get a 1959 or 1960 Chrysler with an original 383, many of the parts will not match the Dodge or corporate 383. My advice is to just switch to the Dodge engine. Even though purists may howl, it will be much cheaper to rebuild the (lighter) corporate 383 as opposed to the RB Chrysler-only, two-year-only 383. The fins run wild
