Dogs chasing deer is becoming a common call in the Clearwater Region lately. Concerned citizens reported a spike in dogs chasing deer numbers in the Kamiah, Kooskia and Grangeville areas. Deer are being chased, injured and at times eaten alive by dogs running at large.

However, somewhere nearby someone owns two German Shepard’s and weekly I catch them chasing deer (not a guess I literally see the deer and the dogs chasing on it’s heels). It infuriates me.

2023年3月13日 · In two separate incidents in late February off-leash dogs were found chasing deer in both Bellevue and Hailey in the Wood River Valley. In Hailey, an off-leash dog chased and killed a mule deer buck in Quigley Canyon. In Muldoon Canyon outside of Bellevue, two off-leashed dogs repeatedly chased deer in deep snow.

2023年4月11日 · According to information provided to Fish and Game by the deputy, these same dogs had been observed chasing and attacking deer in the area in recent weeks. The Fish and Game officer returned the dead dog to its owner. The owner of the second dog involved in chasing the deer was issued a citation for an infraction which carries a $136 fine.

2025年1月15日 · Domestic dogs are a little different. I have never seen collared dogs chasing a deer, nor have I really seen a collared dog in the stand. I do see them from time to time on camera and I have had people on my place with dogs in the deer feeder areas.
