The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB; Filipino: Lupon sa Prangkisa at Pamamahala ng Transportasyong Panlupa[1]) is an agency of the Republic of the Philippines under the Department of Transportation (DOTr). The LTFRB was established on June 19, 1987, during the former president Corazon Aquino ’s administration.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is a Philippine government agency that focuses on the creation, development, operation, and maintenance of most transportation and communications infrastructure in the country.

Its affiliation with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) traces its roots to the former Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC). Today, the LTFRB operates in tandem with the Land Transportation Office (LTO), collectively working on policies, regulations, and services to sculpt a robust land transportation system.

The LTFRB was created by virtue of an Executive order issued on June 19, 1987, with the goal of simplifying the land transportation industry’s franchising system. Since the creation of the LTFRB, the issuance of franchises for land transport operators has become more stringent, resulting in higher safety standards for land travel.
