And, it is a bit more work physically in the really rough terrain. But, I have also ridden the DR on numerous muti-thousand mile road trips where the XR, although plated, would be impractical.

There aren’t that many riders around who remember, but the DR650S’s bloodline can actually be traced back to the ’70s. The first four-stroke off-road bike that Suzuki manufactured was the 1978 SP370. It was a two-valve, air-cooled, five-speed four-stroke with a kick-starter.

You might not want to take some of his tongue-in-cheek coverage of the bike too seriously, but he’s flogged a couple of DRs over the years he’s been on YouTube, and shown the machine’s upgradeability and capability off-road quite well.
