Drepung Loseling Monastery was one of Tibet's largest monastic universities. Located in the hills on the northern outskirts of Lhasa, it was established in 1416 as an institute of higher Buddhist education by Khenpo Lekden, a direct disciple of Lama Tsongkhapa (1357-1419), founder of the eclectic Geluk School.

Khen Rinpoche, the Venerable Abbot of Drepung Loseling Monastery, will impart the initiation into the Medicine Buddha through step-by-step guided instructions for receiving the blessings of this Healing Buddha.

Drepung Loseling Monastery requested Rinpoche to travel to western and Asian countries to teach the Dharma and lead the cultural tours of the Mystical Arts of Tibet.

Drepung Loseling Monastery. Drepung Monastery was established near Lhasa, Tibet in 1416 by Chojey Tashi Palden. It had four departments, of which Loseling, or "The Hermitage of the Radiant Mind," was the largest, housing more than three quarters of Drepung's ten to fifteen thousand monks.

Drepung Loseling Monastery in India. Drepung in Tibet was modeled after the great monasteries of Classical Buddhist India, namely, Nalanda and Vikramalashila, and was an institution dedicated to intense study of the traditional Buddhist arts and sciences.

A six-hundred year old monastic university renowned for its scholars, Drepung Loseling was reestablished in exile after the invasion of Tibet in 1959. He is a Professor of Pedagogy in the Department of Religion at Emory University and the Executive Director of Emory’s Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics.

Following the legacy of Drepung Loseling Monastery, India, and with the patronage of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Drepung Loseling is dedicated to the study and preservation of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition of wisdom and compassion.
