The Drina (Serbian Cyrillic: Дрина, pronounced) is a 346 km (215 mi) long river in the Balkans, [1] which forms a large portion of the border between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. It is the longest tributary of the Sava River and the longest karst river in the Dinaric Alps which belongs to the Danube River drainage basin.

Drina National Park is the fourth national park in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the third in Republika Srpska. It was founded in 2017. The nearest town is Srebrenica. It is located on the other side of the Drina in relation to Tara National Park in Serbia. [2]

The Drina river downstream of the Visegrad passes between the Zvijezda and Tara mountains, and this is the deepest part of a canyon, because some peaks rise over 1.000 m above the sea level. In the Upper Drina Valley (Podrinje), steep forested slopes meet winding karst canyons, Serbian Orthodox churches coexist with Bosniak mosques and whitewater rapids interchange with calm turquoise river stretches.

The Drina River canyon, with steep, vertical cliffs, features its deepest section at the confluence with Crni Potok, where the canyon depth reaches 976 meters. The gorge and canyon valley of Crni Potok is also remarkable, originating at over 1100 meters above sea level and descending more than 800 meters over a 6-kilometer course.
