Duong Hong Phong was born on August 30, 1953, in Nam-Dinh, Vietnam. After high school studies at the Lycée Jean-Jacques Rousseau in Saigon and a year at the École Polytechnique Fédérale in Lausanne, Switzerland, he went to Princeton University, where he obtained both his B.A. and his Ph.D. degrees.
