2023年1月12日 · The full form of EAG states is Empowered Action group states. EAG states are eight socio-economically backward states of India, which include Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttaranchal, and Uttar Pradesh. These states contain a larger share of the country’s population that is almost 45% (Gupta and Talukdar 2017).

Among the EAG states, the inpatients who reside in Uttar Pradesh (84% rural and 83% urban) and Bihar (84% rural and 82% urban) show extreme dependency on private sources of healthcare, followed by Jharkhand (75% rural and 80% urban) and Madhya Pradesh (73% rural and 71% urban).

We explored factors impeding access to public sources of healthcare among the Empowered Action Group (EAG) states of India. We also examined the extent to which Indians depend on public and private sources of healthcare in the EAG states.

Empowered Action Group (EAG) states constitute 45.9 % share of India’s total population, where Uttar Pradesh secures the highest rank and Uttarakhand the lowest among the EAG states.
