Announced following the 18 March 2020 Governing Council meeting, the pandemic emergency purchase programme (PEPP), a temporary programme for public and private sector asset purchases with an initial envelope of EUR 750 billion, was set to run until the end of 2020.
In this context, the ECB has increased the size of existing asset purchase programmes, and launched a temporary, separate and additional pandemic emergency purchase programme (PEPP). This is an updated edition of a briefing published in April 2020.
