Damit die Sozialversicherungsträger in ganz Europa Daten miteinander austauschen können, wurde das System EESSI (Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information) eingerichtet. Seit Juni 2023 verbindet es rund 3400 Träger in 32 Ländern (die 27 EU-Mitgliedstaaten, Island, Liechtenstein, Norwegen, die Schweiz und Großbritannien).
