The locomotive's prime mover was an EMD 645 16-cylinder engine that generated 2,000 horsepower (1.49 MW). The company built 706 GP38s for North American railroads.

6 天之前 · Elevation drawings of the EMD GP38 were published in the 1970 Car and Locomotive Cyclopedia of American Practices (Simmons-Boardman Publishing Corp.) The dimensions of the Rapido model match printed data. The sample we received has an ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder. I first tested the GP38 at the workbench using an NCE Power Cab.

The most populated series on the EMD side of the CR roster were the 223 GP38-2's inherited from Penn Central. Conrail also purchased 115 brand new GP38-2's between 1977 and 1979.
