The EMD GP39 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between June 1969 and July 1970. The GP39 was a derivative of the GP38 equipped with a turbocharged EMD 645E3 12- cylinder engine which generated 2,300 hp (1.72 MW). [1][2]

2025年1月5日 · The GP39 and GP39-2 series were mid-powered, four-axle models EMD offered in the 645 line. They proved unsuccessful although Santa Fe wound up with 106 units.

2018年6月7日 · The Electromotive Division GP39 is a 4 axle, 2,300 HP diesel-electric locomotive built by EMD from 1969 to 1970. The GP39 uses a 12 cylinder 645E3 engine rated at 2,300 HP. It shares the same frame as the GP38, GP38-2, GP39-2, GP40, GP40-2 and GP50.

The GP39-2 fared better in the market place: 220 GP39-2s were sold. Most of the non-Dash 2 GP39s have been retired. The GP39X was an experimental locomotive that was designed to test 50 Series components. Six EMD-owned locomotives were built and in full SOU garb. These units were later converted to GP49 standards.

2024年9月27日 · In the decade between 1974 and 1984, EMD produced the GP39-2 for seven North American railroads. The basic design followed most four axle road diesel switchers for the time. Borrowing improvements from the GP38-2 and GP40-2 designs, this mid-horsepower road switcher utilized a turbocharged 12-cylinder EMD 645E3 diesel engine for it's prime mover.
