2023年5月16日 · EMD produced 188 SD7s and 471 SD9s spanning a collective production run of just over seven years, from 1952 to 1959. Surprisingly, a handful of these locomotives are still in revenue service, with others scattered about at museums and industrial sites across the country.

This Book contains the best single work so far on SP SD7/R's in the form of a history of the EMD SD7 as it relates to SP. The forthcoming release of Volume 4 of SP Historic Diesels by Joe Strapac may provide even more information. Southern Pacific bought 43 SD7's in 3 orders of 15, 1, 7 and 20, with the single unit being the demonstrator.

SD7 - 1952-1953; The SD7 was essentially built and designed as a 6-axle GP7, right down to the 1500hp 16-cylinder 567B engine. Other than the additional axles and length required by the larger trucks, the major spotting difference was the use of a single-section radiator, with 4 36" fans grouped together at the end of the long hood.
