Based on the findings of a recent marine safety investigation, amendments to the 2011 ESP Code were adopted to align the requirements for inspections of void spaces bounding cargo holds with the existing requirements for inspections of water ballast tanks.

Finally, at the 106th Session of its Maritime Safety Committee (MSC106) held in November 2022, the IMO amended the ESP Code to revise the coating condition criteria for the ballast tanks of bulk carriers as well as to clarify some other requirements. This amendment was adopted as Resolution MSC.525(106).
