Dec 7, 2023 · The quiet grain, density, and nonporous surface lend well to an easel, which is often exposed to moisture and paint. I chose stainless-­steel hardware for the same reasons. The density and strength of the hardwood allowed me to scale down the angled legs and canvas support, two key components, for a much more elegant frame.

Feb 7, 2003 · The "H" frame is similar to the one shown in your picture but I use 2x material to build an easel. The added weight make sure it won't wobble even with a very large canvas (6' x 4') on the easel. I build a small little panel/easel that sits on the shelf to put small canvases on and can screw 72" 1x3 boards to the easel for very large canvases.

May 12, 2015 · Great job on the easel! I'm preparing to build the same one, and I don't like the idea of the weights just hanging from the back either. I was considering some sort of carriage for the weights, and then I saw your post here – that's just was I was imagining! You don't happen to have any plans for the weight carriage you built, do you?

Jan 27, 2010 · This mahogany easel is finished with a water based dye, tung oil and 3 coats of shellac. It is done with Greene and Greene details including cloud lifts, ebony plugs, and through tenons. All moving parts of the easel slide on linear bushings made from black UHMW Polyethelene which allow for low friction gliding.

Feb 23, 2010 · Sometime back Norm built a pretty nice easel on his show. You might check out the New Yankee workshop for those plans. I think it is probably still there even tho' Norm has gone on to bigger and better things.
